While you can "bank" multiple swords in your "sword safe," you can only carry three at a time. Yes, it's cool that there are so many swords to track down, but the clunky sword management system makes sorting through them all unnecessarily difficult. A couple of other things hamper play, and sadly, they are the same things that took away from the original game. Because of the large, open-endedness of things, unless you actively track down certain characters to interact with, you could inadvertently slack the game away never getting involved in any of the storylines. As far as gameplay issues go, maybe the biggest problem is that it takes too long to get things started. The camera can be a hassle, not only in battle, but also when exploring the narrow alleyways of the villages. The looks of the various areas are well done, but the clean lines and simple design of Japanese architecture aren't really the most challenging of visuals to render. It would have given it more of a true samurai movie feel. Ideally, there would have been an option to keep the game's original Japanese voice work and follow along with the English subtitles. I didn't think it was possible to over-act and under-act at the same time. Sadly, what you'll notice from the instant the game starts is the absolutely horrible voice work some of it sounds as if it's being read by beginners in an "English as a Second Language Class," and the rest as if spoken by a high school drama troupe. But the game still has some very rough edges that take a lot away from it. Having to perform time-based quests also adds a lot to the experience, as does making sure you have enough health boosts in your bag to get you through tougher battles. The stories you play through are far more epic than in the first game. The Genie has more Way of the Samurai Cheats at is a bigger, deeper game better? Yes and no.
